Dinah Spritzer of the NYTimes writes: “[A]rchitects Tomas Pejpek and Szymon Rozwalka envisioned “a radical gesture” that involved anchoring 240 tons of concrete and steel beams to the empty silo. An elevator takes residents up 80 feet from the street to the house’s first floor.”

Brilliant.

“Dubai’s Big New Bridge will shuttle twelve lanes of traffic across a one-mile span of Dubai Creek and reach 670 feet into the sky. Construction begins in March with a slated completion date of 2012.” — Good Magazine

Meanwhile, here in the United States, our new Bay Bridge will only reach a height of 525 feet and won’t be complete until the end of 2013, despite that construction started in 2005. How is it that the good people of Dubai can erect an engineering marvel in one-third the time (lets just assume they won’t get it done on time) it takes us to construct a smaller bridge? Lame.
