I feel embarrassed to be unaware of [nuclear winter], one that I have not even heard mentioned before. On the contrary, I would have understood much earlier that the risks of a nuclear war were far more serious than I imagined. I assumed that the planet would be able to withstand the explosion of hundreds of nuclear bombs calculating that, in both the United States and the USSR, countless tests have been carried out over the years.

Pretty naive for a guy who was willing to park a bunch of Soviet nukes in his country fifty years ago.

Johnny Carson's 'Tonight Show' to be digitized for a searchable database. →

From the LA Times: “Carson Entertainment Group, which owns the archive of the late-night host’s 30 years on “The Tonight Show,” is set to announce Wednesday that it has digitized all 3,300 hours of existing footage from the program and created a searchable online database for producers and researchers.”

Amazing.
